Cupcakes and the Cup Game

Aimee and Jill made cupcakes one Sunday. Just for fun. It was (fun, I mean).

At our family reunion last weekend, Luke's cousin Emily started practicing the cup game (official name for it? I have no idea). Luke saw and grabbed a cup to play with her, which she did for a few minutes. Thanks, Emily!

Playing Baseball

Some of Luke's cousins visited from South Carolina/Missouri (they were moving from one state to the other), and this is the baseball game that Luke played with his cousin Sawyer and aunt Talara.

video
At first Luke would throw his glove off when he ran to get the ball. Then the game paused for a minute while he put it back on.

video
We kept on asking Luke if he wanted to take a turn
batting, but he wanted to keep playing "fircus" base (that's how he says first). The ball got hit behind Luke a lot, and there was a hole that Luke kept tripping him up. After 5 or 6 times of falling down, he finally figured out to run around the hole.

video
Isn't it great how he lifts his leg up when he throws the ball? We love that.

video
I tried to get the whole game in this one, but I missed Sawyer hitting the ball. But you get the idea.

Watching Baseball

At the Indianapolis Indians.

8 runs in one inning. I won't say which team that was.

Owen with his cousin, Rachel.

Owen eating grapes.
Owen climbing. I feel like I'm repeating myself with that line. It must be his thing this summer.

At the San Antonio

More Summer Activities

Taking really bad pictures of little boys with really dirty faces wearing really big batting helmets and baseball gloves.

Riding

Learning to walk.

Climbing.

Smiling and laughing (and making big messes).

Running, chasing, racing (with neighbors Joseph and Danielle).

Goofing around, aka somersaulting on the couch.

Touch A Truck

The buses were just about all Luke was interested in getting on, so we spent a lot of time there. Oh, and in the bookmobile.

Then is started raining and we ran to the car but still got soaked.

Ducks and Sunday Clothes

We love to walk to the ponds near our house and see the ducks and the fish. These are some pictures from a Sunday evening walk.

Some Summer Activities

Random Stuff:

Aimee's sister, Jill, made an apple pie for the Stake Pioneer Day Celebration that we had in July. It was beautiful.

And Luke couldn't wait to eat it!

This was at the fireworks that we went to the day before the 4th of July. Owen sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the entire show. Luke watched for 2 or three minutes, started crying, went into the car to watch for a few minutes before falling asleep in his carseat.

Aimee's family at Rudy's in San Antonio - a definite "to be missed" for all of us (they moved to Salt Lake City this summer).

Riding the go-kart at Grandma and Grandpa's house with Talara, Dallin's sister.

Owen is walking now, but in June he was just exploring and climbing a lot. One day Aimee unexpectedly found him up on the stool next to Luke's chair, eating Luke's left-over lunch.

At the beginning of the summer we worried about Owen crawling on cement and hurting his knees. Then after seeing him do it a little without seeming to phase him at all, we decided maybe it would encourage him to walk. But it didn't. Then he started doing this:

Frisbee Golf

One evening we went to a local church to play frisbee golf on their course. They have signs saying what par is and baskets for holes.

This was the end of the evening and Owen was more than ready for bed.

This was in June, so Owen was 15 months, but he still did OK in the carrier. Not great, but OK.

Dallin in action.

Drive In

We went to the drive-in movie theater near Bloomington. We saw Up and Night at the Museum 2. It was a ton of fun. Luke and Owen made it through most of the 1st movie, fell asleep in our arms, and were transferred to the carseats without a hitch.

This was ingenious of us. Luke asked if he could take the wagon with us, and we decided "what the heck." He spent at least 1/2 hour running back and forth on the grass with it before the movie started, maybe even longer. It was the perfect thing to entertain him while we were waiting for the show to start.

No movie is complete without popcorn.

The Beach 2009

Our trip to the beach, Corpus Christi. In no particular order:

One of our crabs who climbed to the top of the sandcastle (see below for more details).

Aimee sister, Kristen, driving Toby.

A favorite activity is hunting sandcrabs at night. Here is our loot. There are three or four in the bucket, but you can see the one crawling up the side the best.

Heidi (Kristen's roommate), Kristen and Lettie.

Owen eating sand.

Luke sitting on the beach. He wasn't a fan of the water (wouldn't go anywhere near it, in fact), but loved the sand.

Another family tradition is making a sand sculpture. This year we chose a dolphin (octopus, fish, and turtle are some previous choices). This is the finished product.

We decided to name the dolphin after Aimee's dad.

We went to a birdshow at the aquarium, and Lettie was chose as a helper. This is obviously not a bird that she is feeding. It's a ferret, or something like that - I don't remember for sure.

Jill and Kristen.

Luke with bed-head.

We love vacations! You can always find us doing a considerable amount of this (reading) wherever we are.

The drawing of the dolphin (Jill made it) that we used as an outline for our sculpture.

This cool sandcastle was on the beach the evening we were hunting sandcrabs (we didn't make it). After we caught 3 or 4 crabs, we released them inside the structure.
